Beauty Therapist
About my work
I work in a Salon and am topping up my qualification part-time at College so that I might progress into Salon Management – and work towards my own business. I also take private clients now, so this is a very flexible field where your earnings can be very good if you put in the hours. We carry out a range of face and body treatments including manicure, nail art, aromatherapy massage, pedicure, eyebrow shaping, removal of hair, reflexology and toning and firming regimes.
Hours and Environment
Work is in salon with one to one clients and we cover alternate Saturdays and one evening session per week, with time off to compensate.
Required skills
You have to settle clients and be good with people so you engage their trust. You should be able to assess, question and listen and prescribe and sell the right range of treatment. You’ll be creative, keen on treatment and makeup products and enjoy giving clients a real boost.
Highs
Seeing someone gain so much confidence at your hands.
Lows
Throbbing feet – you are on your feet a lot – and you do need some strength and energy – particularly for massage work.
How to get there
I did my course at Bradford College which is an award winning centre with the most fantastic facilities. They have a good name, you get to work on real clients and have options to specialise in areas such as media makeup and special effects. All of that helped me to find a post really quickly – plus I’m studying part time with then now to go further.
